Soulstice, or “Soulstice Creation” is a project started by singer/songwriter and graphic artist Tristan Charbonneau, with the focus of spreading awareness of Self and Social Change through creativity and community. Using an incarnation of “peaceful activism”, the project aims to send messages of optimism and encouragement through art, whether through music – the main pillar of the project – or through visual art and design.
Contrary to first impressions, Soulstice is not a one-person opperation. Though initially created and produced by its founder, the project seeks to evolve to encompass any and all musical and artistic contributions, growing into a communal expression of the World and its infinite perspectives. In the words of its creator, Soulstice is “the culmination of anyone who has ever been to a concert and felt goosebumps spread up their arms; anyone who’s ever interpretted a piece of art. It’s the creation* and manipulation of energy by the collective artistic Soul.”
Soulstice is lead by Tristan Charbonneau, a BC native who has been nurtured by music festivals from a very young age. Inspired to create and perform as a means of connecting and bolstering the community that raised him, Tristan’s talents lead him from improvising with friends in an old barn, to studying Jazz guitar in Selkirk College’s “Contemporary Music and Technology” program.
Hailed as “the Soul-man’s ‘City and Colour'”, Tristan fuses the atmosphere of R&B, Jazz, and the Blues with contemplative lyricism that encourages listeners to think and move.
Artistically, Tristan’s abilities were birthed out of necessity. As a touring and performing musician, skills in graphic design and artistic promotion were essetial in the growth of musical projects. Starting with show posters and album artwork, and graduating to graphic design, the need to express creativity through visual art took over. Over years of ongoing trial and error a niche in the world of Digital Art began to open, and the concept of a multimedia artistic collective grew.
Now, with dozens of pieecs on display, and with a performance history spreading over a decade and all over the country, Soulstice is on course to inspire and be inspired by a wide and wonderful artistic world.
